Writing has always been a way for me to bridge the various cultures to which I belong. It has allowed me to explore my Haitian-Dominican-American identity in the four languages I speak. Writing is home and, as life would have it, I wandered away from it only to find my way back. Luckily, it was still there when I finally returned to it.

My path led me to studying pre-med and anthropology at Johns Hopkins University as an undergraduate. After graduating and realizing (4 years too late) that medicine is not for me, I randomly fell into photography and loved it. I have been a freelance photographer for 5 years now and shoot mostly portraits, fashion and events.

I found out about ad school on a date. The guy didn’t pan out but I’m confident that my career in advertising will.

In school, I studied art direction to deepen my knowledge of visual communication. However, each writing classes pulled me closer to what I’ve always known and loved to do.

In summary, I am an art director stuck in a copywriters body. Lenses and light will always be my first love. Writing is my safety-blanket.
